Encore February 2019 Music Notes

Like Ohio winter weather, our Spring Recitals date was vacillating until now.  The Encore Music Studios 2019 Spring Recitals will take place on Saturday, May 4th at 10:00 am, 11:00 am, 12:00 pm, and possibly 1:00 pm in the Sanctuary of the Church of the Master like last Autumn.  The Autumn Recitals were too long, so we'll have smaller groups this time around!  Expect teachers to begin assigning and students to begin practicing recital music very soon.  To the newer students in our Encore family, these performance opportunities come twice a year and so are extremely valuable in the development of your musical craft.  We've had students who had only been with Encore 2 months participate before!  While these recitals are not mandatory, participation in the recitals is strongly encouraged for everyone- young children, advanced players, adult students, and shy students.  The atmosphere is always warm and supportive, and the sense of accomplishment is well worth whatever trepidation, if any, might be experienced in the build up to them.  You may begin signing up for them in the beginning of April on the website.

I was very pleased with our first Piano Masterclass taught by Bo Pang and joined by some of you.  I am aware that some more students are interested in Encore holding another Piano Masterclass soon.  I plan to work out details and let you know when the time is finalized as soon as possible.  Thanks to Bo, Alison, Nick, Bethany, and Noelani for kicking off this new, what I hope to be, Encore tradition is such a successful way!

We are currently holding a Keyboard Class, taught by Ian, on Wednesdays at 6:00-7:00 pm in the Dublin Studio Classroom.  There is room for 1 more intermediate level or higher piano student to develop their application of music theory concepts to improvise and create simple harmonies and accompaniments.  Contact me if interested.

Would any of you violin, voice, and guitar students be interested in Masterclasses for your own instruments?  Would any other teacher be interested in teaching a Masterclass?  We have the room, so I'd love to make use of it.  Let me know.

As I was looking back at the practice sheets being turned in by my students,  I was thrilled to see the consistency so many are showing in their practice regimen.  Teachers please continue to use practice sheets with ALL students.  The prizes are more appropriate for younger students, but everyone can use accountability!  (Also, I am going to be assembling a database because I want to begin recognizing outstanding practicers at the Recitals again.)

Thanks to all of you for contributing to the Encore community and reaching for musical excellence!

Piano Masterclass with Bo Pang Saturday, Feb. 9th at 10:00am

Sunday, February 3, 2019 by Bradley Allen | Event

I want to inform you of an immediate and wonderful growth opportunity for all Encore Music Studios piano students.  The newest member of our faculty and most accomplished pianist on staff, Bo Pang, will be giving a Piano Masterclass this Saturday from 10:00-11:30am at our Dublin 2732 Sawbury Blvd. location just off Sawmill and 270.  We are utilizing the newest space afforded us, a large music classroom(Studio 4).  The Masterclass will consist of a 10 minute Piano Performance by Bo, followed by 3  20-minute lessons with preselected intermediate to advanced students.  There will be 20 minutes or so left to meet and visit with Bo as some of you may want to begin studying with her.  You will find her delightful, kind, and very talented!  We have 10 spots left and they will be given on a 1st come, 1st serve basis.  If, and it's very likely, more people are interested than will fit in the first Masterclass, we will organize a 2nd Masterclass with her.  Please make every effort to avail yourselves of this enriching resource!

Encore Music Studios' January 2019 Music Notes

Thursday, January 17, 2019 by Bradley Allen | Newsletter

Encore Teachers, Students, and Families,

2019 at Encore brings new opportunities and responsibilities!  As some of you might have known,  our Dublin location was formerly being shared with Diane LaHue and VRS.  Encore Music Studios has now expanded into the entire location which adds a 3rd teaching studio and a large classroom for Group Lessons, Private Lessons, Teacher Meetings, Master Classes, and  Performance opportunities for students in between recitals.  Encore is now offering a Keyboard Class that will take place on Wednesdays from 6:00-7:00pm.  This Keyboard Class will focus on developing the skills to accompany other musicians with a working knowledge of music theory, primarily through listening to a variety of music and improvising.  It will consist of a 10-week course beginning 1/30/19 and ending 4/3/19 and will be taught by our talented Ian Harrah!  I am also wanting to start a Beginning Guitar Class, possibly from 5:00-6:00pm on Wednesdays as well.  Details to follow!

We have installed a coat/music bag hook in each of the studios for your convenience.  We are considering Saturday, April 20th or 27th for our 2019 Spring Recitals depending on Church of the Master availability.  January tuition was submitted late by a fair number of you.  With this new obligation and opportunity in Dublin comes a more stringent requirement that payments are made in a timely manner.  Some have already paid for February- Thank You!  For business reasons, though more impersonal, I will add a late fee of $15 on the 2nd of each month for tuition that is late without exception.  Please take note of this, as I have tried to be lenient in the past.

Most students are consistently achieving gold practice stars.  Great Job!  If you or your child are not practicing at least 5 days/week AND writing it down on your practice sheet faithfully, NOW is the time to make a change!  We added new prizes in December for the Holiday and Winter Season.  Thank you once again for your dedication to the pursuit of excellence in music, for your enthusiasm to improve, and choosing Encore Music Studios as the place to spend this enriching time!  Great Job Teachers, as I am aware of the striving efforts to improve your craft and musicianship each of you is making!  Thanks Parents for providing a supportive environment at home and urging your children on when needed!  Let's make this the Best Year ever!
