Remember to add music to your backpack this year. Whether in your first year, college, or a senior citizen, Music Makes Everything Better!
As we welcome returning and new students to Encore Music Studios, and celebrate all of those who have been on this journey with us through the summer, it is important to remember to renew and redouble our efforts here within the walls of each teaching studio. We are in pursuit of excellence- in music, of character, and through loving actions. The mission is to always keep in mind the path before our pupils and the audiophonic cobblestones that each teacher should be carefully and thoughtfully laying in front of each valued participant. All of we instructors , if we are wise, will hear with our hearts the sincere questions asked at every age- "Can I do this?" "Will I be good?" "How do I get from where I am to where I want to be?" Our real and resounding answers should be "You can do it!" "You'll be great!" and "I'm here to guide you. We'll make it together."
We strive to assemble in our group of teachers a braintrust of scholars, a pool of musical talent, and gaggle of beautiful people with high character. This is about music. But not only about music. We hope the collective Encore Music Studios experience is overflowing with patience, loving care, intellectual rigor, flexibility, dedication, and joy. Everybody has a bad day. Many have challenging circumstances, struggles, and changes in life circumstances. May Encore be a place for comradery, healing, encouragement for us all. I just heard the other day a conversation between 2 mothers sharing about their hopes for their daughters and rallying together towards the future. I love when the environment is right for this bonding to occur. We all need it.
We are blessed to have been joined in the past couple of months by some talented new teachers and staff.
We are happy to officially welcome our new Assistant Director to Encore. Many of you have already talked with her via phone, email, or text. We are blessed to have her as part of our team!
Eliana Abraham comes to Columbus from Dallas, TX where she has attended SMU for undergrad. Her favorite past-time is going to any live music event, whether that be at a major concert venue or at a jazz hall. She has played the acoustic guitar for seven years and especially enjoys Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, and country artists. Eliana led SMU’s tradition programming organization as President during her senior year, organizing vendors, contracts, checks, and other administrative duties. She most recently worked as a Front Desk Receptionist at a local fitness studio. Eliana is incredibly excited to be a part of the Encore Music Studios team!
We are excited to begin putting together our Recital pieces. November 19th is right around the corner and teachers will be assigning students with larger renditions their assignments soon, if not already given. If you have a child who is new to Encore in the past year, we encourage you to invite him or her to perform for one of our 2022 Autumn Recitals. The simplest song or exercise will do, just as long as it is something that has been well practiced. The experience gained by anyone so inclined to participate is invaluable. Many enjoy the opportunity to dress up and perform. We always have appreciative audiences and supportive family and friends attending our Encore Music Studios' Recitals. The space has been reserved once again at The Church of the Master United Methodist on Otterbein's campus in Uptown Westerville. I anticipate 5 or 6 hour-long recitals on that Saturday in the Santuary with refreshments after each in the Gathering Room. We will be taking group pictures as well. More about this to follow.
On a personal note. one of our own at Encore, (and my very own) Dr. Helen Allen has begun her new position at The Ohio State University in the School of Music in the Voice Dept. Congratulations to you! You deserve it.
Thank you to all who work so hard to give their loved ones an opportunity to grow their musical acumen, increase their excitement for the arts, and for a way to share and express joy through this lovely medium!
Bradley D. Allen, Director
